Policies

Personal belongings determined to be lost and turned in to the Information Service Desk or staff at the Van Houten Library fall into two broad categories: high value and low value items. Attempts will be made to contact owners (if known) of lost items.

High Value Items: 

To be turned over to NJIT Department of Public Safety daily before the library closes

  • Cash, Credit and Debit Cards
  • Purses, Wallets
  • Cell phones
  • Jewelry
  • Laptops and other Electronic Devices
  • Keys

NJIT Department of Public Safety can be reached at 973-596-3120 regarding lost items. Their headquarters is located at 154 Summit St.

Low Value Items:

To be kept at Van Houten Library’s Information Service Desk

  • Government and Non-government issued IDs
  • Books, notebooks
  • Clothing
  • USB Drives, Mouse, Headphones, Power Cords
  • Glasses
  • Umbrellas
  • All other items considered to be low value

Low value items not claimed by the end of the semester in which they were turned in will be donated to charity.
