A brief overview of how to use Omeka to create digital exhibits.

Introduction to Omeka

Omeka is an open source platform used to create and publish digital collections and exhibits.  It is developed and supported by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for New Media at George Mason University.  It is a popular tool in humanities scholarship for displaying digital content.  There are two options for using Omeka: Omeka.net (hosted) or Omeka.org which is downloaded and installed on your own server space.  The free version of Omeka.net has less functionality than the full install but is a basic way to get acquainted with the platform.

This guide will introduce some of the basic set up tasks, functions, and features of adding items and creating exhibits in Omeka using the Digital Archive of Newark Architecture (DANA) as its model.  *We are currently using "Omeka Classic" not "Omeka S."
