Understanding Citations

Citations come in many different styles. These include

  • APA
  • MLA
  • IEE
  • ACS
  • Chicago

APA and MLA are the most commonly used ones, but you may sometimes encounter IEEE in engineering papers, or ACS in chemistry papers. Use the sidebar navigation to explore these formats in more detail.

Note: If you're ever uncertain about which style to use, always ask your professor! If you're looking to publish, check the publisher's guidelines directly to determine which style they want you to use.
