Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery Service (DDS) are now managed by Rapido. Rapido is a new resource sharing platform that allows you to find and request items from other libraries while searching the NJIT Library discovery system.

You don't need to create an account to utilize the service, simply log into your library account using your UCID and password.

Use of ILLiad will be discontinued at the conclusion of the Fall 2025 semester.

You can still access your ILLiad account to check the status and due date of any items you borrowed through that system. Access is available until the end of spring 2026 semester.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

  • Current NJIT students, faculty, and staff should use the Interlibrary Loan service to request articles and borrow print books and other materials free of charge from other libraries for materials not owned by the NJIT Library.

What is Document Delivery (DDS)

  • Current NJIT students, faculty, and staff should use the Document Delivery service to request articles or book chapters from the NJIT Library's print collection. The library staff will scan and deliver requests electronically to you.

Notification of Completed Requests

  • Requesters are notified by email when their ILL or DSS requests are ready for pickup. The turnaround time for digital resources may be as short as 12 to 24 hours and up to two (2) weeks for physical materials.

Textbook Requests

  • Please note most libraries will not lend textbooks. We encourage students to ask their instructors to place textbooks on reserves for everyone to access.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

NJIT reserves the right to refuse to accept an interlibrary loan request or a document delivery request, in our judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
