Data Sources for Data Science Research

Datasets are becoming increasingly abundant and accessible online. However, finding relevant data in the sea of information can be a daunting process. This page is meant to organize reputable data sources by subject for your convenience.

When evaluating a data source, it is important to consider:

Where the data is from (authorship)
Accessibility (file format)
Content (subject & quality)

Library Databases with Datasets

IEEE Xplore
Offers unlimited access to IEEE journals, magazines, conference proceedings, active standards, and backfiles dating to 1884. Covers topics including aerospace, AI, software engineering, telecommunications, biomedical engineering, electric power, and consumer electronics.
Sage Data
Powered by Data Planet, it is a single platform to explore, visualize, and share detailed data from trusted source providers. With its multidisciplinary and global scope, it can be used in any setting from independent research to classroom instruction.
Scopus
Scopus is a comprehensive abstract and citation database from Elsevier. It covers peer-reviewed literature in science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and the arts and humanities. It offers tools for tracking research trends, author impact, and institutional performance.
Statista Expert
Statista provides statistical data on many topics including media, business, politics, society, technology and education. Sources include market reports, trade publications, scientific journals, and government databases. Charts can be downloaded in PNG, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF formats or embedded in web pages and can be great in papers or presentations.
