Course Reserves at the Van Houten Library

How to see if the library has a book as a course reserve

  • Search:  Enter the title you are looking for, the name of your professor, or the course code into the search bar.
  • Access: Scroll to find the title you are looking for. Make note of the item's call number, usually in parentheses, and provide that information to the staff at the Circulation Desk.

If you have any questions or issues contact circdesk@njit.edu

How to check out a course reserve

Once you have determined that the course reserve is available, come to the Van Houten Library circulation desk and please do the following:

1.)  Tell the desk attendant that you want to check out a course reserve.

2.)  Provide the title of the book, your course, and your professor.

3.) Most reserves are only available to use in the library for two hours at a time. Verify with the desk attendant if the book is for "In-Library Use Only," 1 Day Checkout, or 7 Day Checkout. Please be sure to return the book accordingly to avoid fines and ensure that it is available to your classmates as well.

4.) Give the desk attendant your NJIT ID so the book can be checked out to your library record. If it is a two hours "In-Library Use Only" book you will have to leave your NJIT ID with the desk attendant which can be retrieved when you return the book.
