Course Reserves at the Van Houten Library

What are Course Reserves?

A course reserve is a book that a professor has had set aside for your class to use in the library. The course reserves can be textbooks, required reading from the syllabus, or other helpful sources. They are located behind the library's circulation desk and can be borrowed by asking the desk attendant to locate and check the book out to you.

There are three types of course reserves:

1. "For in-library use only" - these items can only be used in the library for two hours. Under no circumstances should they be removed from the library. To check them out, you need to provide the desk attendant with the name of the book, your course, and your professor; give them your NJIT ID; check out the book under your library account and leave your NJIT ID with the desk attendant to be retrieved when you return the book.

2. "For 1 day checkout" -  course reserves with this sticker on the front of the book can be checked out using your NJIT ID and kept for one day only.  This ensures that others in the course have a chance to use them as well.

3. "For 7 day checkout"course reserves with this sticker on the front of the book can be checked out using your NJIT ID and kept for seven days only.  This ensures that others in the course have a chance to use them as well.
