Course Reserves at the Van Houten Library

How to request a course reserve

If you want to guarantee that everyone in your class has equal opportunity to access required reading, you can request that the library put aside a book we already own or that belongs to you or your department as a course reserve. In order to do so, you can follow these steps:

1.) Be sure to have all the titles you want the library to set aside as course reserves requested at least 2 months before your course begins.

2.)  Fill out a course reserve request form at least 2 months before your course begins:

3.) Email us at askalibrarian@njit.edu to make sure that your course reserve has been set aside a month before your course begins.

If the library does not have a book that you would like to have on reserve, please contact your subject liaison librarian or email askalibrarian@njit.edu for assistance.

How to advertise course reserves to your class

1.) Note in your syllabus that the book is in the Van Houten Library as a course reserve.

2.) Refer your students to this Course Reserves LibGuide to help them successfully get their course reserve from the library.

3.) Take your class to the Van Houten Library at the beginning of the semester to have them learn how to check out course reserves, do a tour of the library, and hear about all the resources available to them. Please contact us at askalibrarian@njit.edu to have a member of our staff help you arrange this!
