Sage Data

This guide is intended as an overview of the Sage Data database.

Homepage

From the homepage you can either enter a search, or use the Browse Data tool to narrow your data selections before entering the datasets view.

""

Browse data by:

  • Subject
  • Source
  • Geography

Datasets

If you select Datasets, you will immediately enter the datasets view which includes three panels:

""Datasets Panel :

Select datasets of interest.

Choose from:

  • Featured datasets
  • Subject
  • Source
  • Geography

Refine results by entering keywords.

Compare Data

Select the Compare Datasets button to select and compare multiple datasets. Data may be compared across datasets and sources. You can also hide datasets in the compare chart by selecting the eyeball icon next to the dataset name in the Indicator Panel.

""Indicator Panel :

  • Select indicators and variables of interest
  • Deselect any variables that are selected by default

Note: Each time a selection is made, the chart view in the Results Panel changes.

Notice: the Pop Out buttons allow you to search through the list criteria in an enlarged window. 

""Results Panel :

View selected results and customize the display.

Note: Under the data visualization, you will find detailed source and dataset information as well as Subject Terms to search for related data.

Notice: To view the underlying data, select the Table tool.

Tools :

  • Export data and citations in multiple formats

    • Export data or Cite the data by exporting to a reference management software.

  • Create DOI links

    • Find or Create Link under the data visualization in the Results Panel.

  • Calculate new data

    • The Calculator tool allows you to create derived data columns including average, percent difference, etc.

  • Embed data charts

    • Display the data visualization you created within a web application by creating a dynamic or static Embed

Data Basics

""Data basics includes articles written to help you build your statistical literacy. They cover three main areas:

  • Explore and find statistics
  • Evaluate datasets and sources
  • Interpret and use statistics

Search

You can also do a search in Sage Data from either the homepage or the top tab. Input subject terms, a known source, or a location to find relevant datasets. Use the filter panel to narrow your results even further.
