Research in Architecture and Design: Home

This guide is intended to serve as a general introduction to conducting research at the Littman Library. It details electronic and library resources, and how to use them.

If you are looking for information about a specific subject or type of research, consult our list of additional research guides. For tutorials on how to use specialized software - check Pluralsight.

While conducting your research you will need to build preliminary knowledge, review existing literature and understand methods used by other authors. You will consult numerous print and web-based resources. The vast variety of available materials ranges from dictionaries and encyclopedias, monographs, essays, newspapers’ and journals’ articles, to archival records, photographs, drawings, architectural objects or other materials specifically for your topic. This guide will help you to identify key sources, critical theories, and major issues.

Once you have conducted your research and compiled your resources, the next step is to synthesize this material into a paper or project that reflects your findings. This guide provides access to some resources for writing about art, architecture, and design. To learn how to cite used materials check our other guides.

As always, feel free to contact us or stop by the library if you have any questions about starting a research project, locating or using resources, or writing and citing your work. Also, do not forget about the University Writing Center and its services.
