The Professional Development Committee supports members of the AALA by sharing information on professional development opportunities and by developing programming, career guidance, and mentoring initiatives that foster and advance careers in academic architectural librarianship. The committee promotes professional standards and provides access to a variety of resources related to continuing education and career opportunities, current and emerging practices, professional associations, conferences, seminars, and exhibitions. It also introduces reference materials concerned with collection development, cataloging, instruction services, management, and other aspects of the profession. These resources, both in print and available online, can guide librarians and students, enabling them to expand their knowledge base. To facilitate various mentoring activities, the committee investigates best practices in this area as well. Information on grants enables librarians to pursue innovative projects and practices.
