Finding government sources on urban parks

The government is the largest publisher in the U.S.

Federal, state and local governments gather data, provide consumer information and share research that impacts communities

Append “site:.gov” to a google search to limit your search results to government websites.

Example: urban recreation site:.gov

Example: community and biodiversity site:.gov

USDA plants database

The USDA Plants Database is a rich source for information on biodiversity in specific regions:

Search for plants -- use the scientific name for best results -- and find:

  • images -- many are free to use in your presentations -- check each image for details
  • maps -- county level information on documented occurrence
  • wildlife -- what is the plant's relation with wildlife?
  • additional sources
  • and more
