Find a Book in the NJIT Library: Reading the Catalog Record

Learn how to find a specific book in the NJIT Library

Understanding Call Numbers

Where do you find books?

Use information from its Catalog record to find a book.

Location
Check the Location to find out where the NJIT Library keeps the book. It could be Architecture Library, Circulation Desk, Reference, New Books, Stacks (lower level) or elsewhere.

Call Number
Write down the call number. It acts as the "address" of an item in the library.

Status
The status line will tell you whether a book is available, checked out, or lost

Title & Author
Please remember the Title & Author to help desk staff retrieve the book from the Circ Desk or Arch Desk for you.

Catalog Record

While looking at the catalog record, you will need to note the Title, Author, Location, Call Number, and Status in order to locate the physical book in the NJIT Library.
