ENGL 101/102

This handy libguide provides support and suggested resources for English Composition.

Welcome

Welcome! This guide will connect you with library sources that will help you to be successful with research-supported writing assignments every step of the way.

Start with Reviewing the Research Process (see below) to get off on the right foot.

Explore the tabs on the left for:

  • Background information for exploring and formulating your question
  • Finding original research articles using scholarly/academic databases
  • Strategies, like Boolean search syntax, to help you get good search results
  • Searching for information with a disciplinary lens
  • Citing your sources

Reviewing the Research Process

Focusing on the research process will put you on the path to success. Every field, including your intended major, uses the research process. Here are three really good sourcs -- an infographic, video and guide from MIT -- to get yourself familiar with the research process and give you a framework to get started.

Consult "The Research Process" from MIT Libraries for some more in-depth outlines of the research process.

Watch the video Picking your topic IS research! (3:11) from NC State University Libraries.
