IEEE Xplore

This guide is intended to provide an overview for the IEEE Xplore database.

Homepage

Global search bar, currently empty and set to search all content types.

On the landing page you have the ability to use the global search bar, switch to advanced search, or view top searches to identify popular and emerging trends in the field. In the global search bar you have the option to search all content types, or choose a specific type to narrow your search.

Initial Search

  • To begin a search, either select a resource type from the drop-down menu or search All.
  • Enter your search into the global search bar for a basic search.
  • Here is an example on the detection of dielectrics:

Basic search in IEEE Xplore for resources that mention dielectrics.

Copy-and-paste version of search:

  • dielectrics

Narrow Your Search

  • You can narrow results by adding information to the search, such as additional keywords or author names,
  • Or construct a search string using the advanced search.
    • Note: While Boolean best practices tells us to wrap OR conditions in parenthesis, do not use parenthesis in the IEEE Xplore Advanced Search. Instead, simply type your OR conditions into one box.
  • You can also refine your search by searching within the results or selecting information to include from the side panel such as document types and publication years.

Advanced search in IEEE Xplore for research on dielectrics and resistive random-access memory.

Copy-and-paste version of search:

  • dielectrics AND ("resistive random-access memory" OR ReRAM)
