Women in Architecture: Organizations

International Archive of Women in Architecture

Created in 1985 and housed at Virginia Tech, the International Archive of Women in Architecture is a living repository for primary source material about women architects, designers, historians, urban planners, and critics. It physically keeps, preserves, and provides access to these materials, as well as providing some digitized materials.

NJIT Murray Center for Women in Technology

The Murray Center for Women in Technology at NJIT is a university supported network to help women succeed. 

It is physically located on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center, with a lounge and study area.

It hosts movie nights, academic conferences, and gives out scholarships to women studying at NJIT.

Society of Architectural Historians- Women in Architecture

The Women in Architecture affiliate group of the Society of Architectural Historians provides a support group and forum to advocate for the contributions of women in the field of architectural history. 

Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation

A non-profit organization that advocates for changing the architecture profession to become more inclusive of women. 

It hosts an archive that documents to work of Women architects in the United States, alongside a podcast, film collection and more.

The BWAF also conducts mentorship programs, promotes work by women architects, organizes awards, as well as leadership retreats, all to improve the career prospects and visibility of women in the building professions.


Non-profit organization that promotes women in the architecture profession through events, mentoring, and community dialogue.

Part W

A British campaign group to raise the profile of women in architecture and challenge gender discrimination in the profession. Among other events, workshops, and publications, they maintain an alternative list of potential recipients of the RIBA Gold Medal award that suggests women that could have been awarded. Their project "Woman's Work: London" is putting together a map of architectural sites in the city designed by women.

Association for Women in Architecture + Design

The Association for Women in Architecture + Design is a LA based nonprofit professional organization, founded in 1922, and devoted to progressing women in the building and design professions. Membership provides access to programing, events, speakers, and a professional network.

The American Institute of Architects is the foremost professional architecture organization in North America. It has numerous regional Chapters including in New York and New Jersey, both of which have affiliate groups for women.
