Curbside Pickup @ NJIT
The Van Houten Library will provide curbside pickup of books or media materials for current students, faculty, and staff.
Contactless Request and Pick-up Books and Media Materials
Curbside pickup starting on Monday, June 22, 2020 and continues throughout fall 2020 semester.
At this time we are providing access to physical items from the Van Houten Library and Littman Library; we will eventually provide interlibrary loan (ILL) access as more libraries open across the country.
Curbside pickup is available during library hoursof operation.
To support social distancing efforts, the library is operating with limited staff. We will fill your requests as quickly as possible.
Returns of Materials
We are happy to accept returns of borrowed materials. You can drop them in the Book Drop inside the lobby of the Van Houten Library. Swipe access is required to enter the Central Ave Building (CAB).
Returned materials will be quarantined for 7 days after being checked in.
We are not accepting donations at this time. Any donated items will be discarded.
Do not return books from libraries other than the Van Houten Library and Littman Library.
Step 1: Request Curbside Pickup
Hold requests can be made anytime online or by calling 973-596-6371 during the curbside pickup hours.
After you place your hold, we will retrieve the items(s) for you. Depending on when you place your hold(s) and the volume of requests we have received, your requests may be processed that day or the following workday. Requests made after 3:00 pm will not be ready for pickup until the following workday.
You will receive an email notification when your requested items are ready for pickup. Call 973-596-6371 to schedule an appointment for your curbside pickup. As part of the process, you will be given the option to designate someone else to pick up your items.
Drive to the Van Houten Library, pull up near the front of the Central Avenue Building on Bleeker Street by the designated Curbside Pickup location. Remain in your car. Call 973-596-6371 and we will check your item(s) to your account, bring them outside, and put them in the trunk of your car.
Please have your NJIT ID ready to hold up to the window so we can confirm your patron account. If you have designated someone to pickup your item(s) for you, they can show their driver's license.
Step 2: How to Place a Hold
To request items from the library, search Primo Discovery and place a hold request for the item. If you need help locating an item, please use the "Live Chat: Ask the Library" service.

3. Click Send Request
Step 3: Curbside Pickup Location
Upon arrival at the Van Houten Library's designated Curbside Pickup location which is located in front of the Central Avenue Building on Bleeker Street (by Lot 7).
Remain in your car and call 973-596-6371.
Please have your NJIT ID ready to hold up to the window so we can confirm your patron account. If you have designated someone else to pick up your materials, they should have their driver's license ready.
The library staff will bring your item(s) to you and put them in the trunk of your car.
