Understanding Citations: How to cite: Works Cited/References

This guide was designed to help you read citations and understand different formats as well as create citations for your own research.

When to use this?

When citing your sources in the works cited, bibliography, or references section.

Why is citing important?

1. Avoid plagiarism

2. Demonstrates that you have thoroughly researched the topic, and that your work is based on evidence.

3. Provides details necessary for readers to find the original source, if they wish to read it themselves.
