Database Searching: 3. Create Search Strategy

1. Let's use the IEEE Xplore database as an example. 

2. Using the "Advanced Search" feature, insert your key terms into the text fields, as shown below:

• Words in quotation marks (i.e., "3D printing"), will be searched for as one whole term as opposed to its individual words.
• (i.e., you'll retrieve articles on 3D printing, as opposed to articles on "3D" and "printing").
• The "OR" between the terms searches for articles that include either "3D printing" or "additive manufacturing" or both. Use OR for synonyms.
• The "AND" in the dropdown box means it will retrieve articles that include both (1) any of the terms from text field 1, and (2) any of the terms from text field 2.
