Introduction to the Littman Library: Finding Information on Architects

This guide will introduce you to the Littman Library, its collections and services.

Information on Architects

To find information on architects you can use various resources, both in print and online. Our guide How to find information on architects will provide more specific suggestions on available materials and on how to formulate a search strategy. Below are a few selected reference publications that can be used as a source of information on architects and architectural firms. In addition, you can search the online catalog to find encyclopedias, architectural histories, surveys, biographies and bibliographies. To find monographs, use the architect's or firm's name as the subject heading or as a keyword in your search.

Very often articles are the only sources of information. Consult the pages Articles, Tutorials and Using Databases in Architectural Research to learn more about how to use databases for your research. The Avery Index in particular is an excellent resource for architectural information.

Architects' or architectural firms' websites can also provide important information or link to other sources. Additionally, do not forget to check out video recordings and podcasts, some of which you can find on our page Videos & Web Resources.
