Books in the Library Print Page

The Littman Library has a collection of books, both in print and digital formats, on a variety of subjects in architecture, art and design. You can view recently acquired materials in the library and online. New books are typically located in the quiet reading area above current periodicals. All of the books in the library are organized according to the Library of Congress classification system and each of them has a unique call numberCheck out "How to read a call number" to learn how to understand an item's call number. There are also collections of  e-books that can be accessed via the library website.

To find out if NJIT owns a book, use the library online catalog Voyager. To learn how to make your search more efficient, read our tutorial "How to find a book." Pay attention to a book's availability and location. Books located in the stacks (Arch.stacks, aisles 3-9) can be borrowed, while materials placed on reserve (ArchDesk), reference resources (Arch.Ref - aisles 1&2), and scarce editions (Rare book cabinets) can only be used in the library. Through Voyager you can also access course reserves and check your account to see how many books you have out, what their due dates are, renew books online (if they are not overdue) and check if you have any library fines. In addition to Voyager, you can search the catalogs of other libraries (local, regional and worldwide) and can use materials in the Robert Van Houten LibraryRutgers University Dana Library and Newark Public LibraryTo borrow books not owned by NJIT, use the Interlibrary Loan ServiceVarious tutorials and research guides are available if you would like more information or instruction on these topics.
